    According to question,

    In downstream,

    x=(S+2)x6   ……..(1)                               as,  (Distance= Speed x Time)

    In upstream,

    x=(S−2)x8   ……..(2)  

    From (1)  & (2),

    (S+2)6=(S−2)8

    => 6S+12=8S−16

    => S=14 km/hr.
