    length of the garden = 76 m

    breadth of the garden = 42 m

    width of the road = 2 m

    cost of constructing the paths = Rs 80 per m²

    To Find – The cost of constructing the path

    Solution-

    First lets find the area of lengthwise path

    area = length X breadth

           = 76 X 2

           = 152 m²

    Now lets find the area of width wise path

    area = length X breadth

           = 42 X 2

           = 84 m²

    Now lets find the area of the central square where both the paths coincide.

    we will later subtract the area of the central square because we included its area twice while we calculated the areas of the paths.

    area = side²

            = (2)²

            = 4 m²

    Now lets find the total area

    Total area = area of lengthwise path + area of width wise path – area of       central square

    = 152 + 84 – 4

    = 152 + 80

    = 232 m²

    cost for construction = area of paths X rate of construction

                                      = 232 X 80
