    Given : Amit takes 20 days to complete a certain work.

    Amit started the work and Suraj joined him 4 days before the work was completed.

    Suraj’s efficiency is 25% more than that of Amit’s​

    To Find : the number of days for which Amit worked alone

    Solution:

    Amit 1 day work  =  A

    Amit 20 days work  = 20A

    Total work = 20A

    Let say after x day  Suraj joined Amit

    then Amit work for x + 4 days

    and Suraj work for  4 day

    Suraj’s efficiency is 25% more than that of Amit’s​

    => Suraj 1 day work = A + (25/100)A  = 5A/4

    => Suraj 4 day work = 4 * 5A/4 = 5A

    Amit x + 4 days work  =(x + 4)A

    = xA  + 4A

    xA  + 4A + 5A =  20A

    => xA = 11A

    => x = 11

    Amit worked alone for 11 Days
