    Since x+y =9 –(1)

    and x-y=4 –(2)

    Adding equations (1) and (2)

    => 2x=13

    x=13/2

    Putting the value of x in equation (1)

    =>y=5/2

    Therefore,

     {x}^{2}  -  {y}^{2}  = (x + y)(x - y) \\  = 9 \times 4 \\  = 36
